Fort Collins has recently proposed an ordinance that aims at underage drinking. Through this ordinance, party hosts will be liable for minors under the influence even if they did not supply the alcohol. This social ordinance would result in a civil violation and fine for individuals who host a party where underage drinking takes place.

Twenge discusses the impacts of smartphones in teens (also referred to as "iGen's") today and attempts to determine if smartphones have caused a generation to falter in their mental and physical health. The author interviews a 13 year old girl about issues teens are developing due to these devices. She examines the spike in teen suicide rates since the invention of the smartphone, how teens no longer go out and socialize with others, and the lack of sleep teens may be getting due to smartphone activity. Many research projects have suggested that smartphone activity among teens is linked to depression symptoms, "Kids who spend more time online are lonelier than the kids who spend less time online" (Twenge). I disagree with this as being online or on social media gives some kids the feeling of being wanted as they are able to make friends through these platforms. The internet is a popular form of entertainment and in most instances provides teens with something to do. During this time of my virtual teen's life they experienced many physical, cognitive, and socioemotional changes and developments. In these years they experienced challenges that many adolescents face such as finding their identity, adjusting to high school, developing morals, and adjusting to a divorced family. All the while they were consistently doing well in school academically while having some minor issues socially as they tended to stay shy around new people and keep to a small close group of friends.

The word Teenager was created in the 1950's due to the tremendous amount of people in that age group. In the 50's teens spent there time listening to music at diners, or spending their weekends at the local drive in. Teens back then didn't have much to worry about, one of the biggest being if their knee length skirts were to short. Now teenagers spend there time at parties, many times engaging in illegal acts. In the story of Romeo and Juliet, are there possible similarities from today's world to the time period in the book? When you read Shakespeare's story, you discover how much teenagers then remind you of today's teens. Teenagers from both these time periods seem to have a lot in common. It is surprising how strongly the behavior of Romeo and Juliet and their friends parallels the way today's teens handle relationships and deal with situations. One way they are similar is how teens in the story and teens today can be so dramatic. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is extremely distraught over his breakup with Rosaline. It amazes me how he can barely function until he suddenly takes one look at Juliet, and he then immediately gets over his love of Rosaline! As well as this, Tybalt is impulsive when he decides he is going to go kill Romeo at the party simply because Romeo is a Montague, not because of anything he has done. In like manner to this, today's teenagers can also be reckless like this. We may decide to go to a movie without getting permission or money. We may hop in the car and go to get fast food only to discover we have no money in our wallet when we get to the restaurant. We may make a comment on an Instagram post without thinking about how our words might affect someone. All of these examples prove that teens in either time period did not think most times and just acted on first thought.

It doesn't matter if you're a girl or a guy or a different race. You'll be advertised anyways. Sometimes when it's a specific type of advertisement that's referring to someone specific, it can make you think "oh it's not for me so I should just ignore it." And it'll make you feel like that advertisement wasn't for you, but for someone else. There are so many different kinds of magazines. There are fashion magazines, fitness magazines, cooking magazines, and all other kinds. The ones that teens usually look at are fashion, fitness, and sport magazines. For girls the fashion magazine is the one they would most likely look at. They want to follow the trends and what's in and what's out of fashion and some want to fit in with a crew that dresses differently. Same thing with the guys. Whatever's out of fashion for them, they don't wear anymore, but for girls whatever was out can come back to trend. For the guys that usually doesn't happen. People may think of you differently because of what you're wearing, but they really don't know who you really are.

In the article "Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation?" Jean M. Twenge she argues that a generation has been taken over by smartphones. I agree with Twenge's theories, but I feel that she was over–exaggerating when she states that teenagers are on a "mental–health crisis". I realize that I am categorized in the second group who is considered antisocial. I like to go out, but it is rare that this happens because I feel comfortable in my room. Whenever I do go out I have a great time with all of my friends. It is vice versa for most teenagers, sometimes they like to go out and party other times they don't; it just all about preference. It is not that teenagers spend their time much differently than they did back then, it is just that sometimes they just want to be antisocial and get away from the world for a while and focus on themselves.
The author states that teens are less likely to party, drink, and get into an accident. I have to disagree with this statement of hers as well. My main reason is that having a smartphone, just having social media period, gives teens more access to parties. Social media helps promote parties, and a lot of teens who aren't even in high school yet can go out and smoke, drink and get into an accident just as easily as the teenagers did in previous generations. Also, social media can promote drinking and smoking underage, and if someone ever saw any of these posts or videos promoting this type of "fun", of course, they would want to go out and try it to see what they would experience for themselves. It is used today in socials classes when people are prejudiced toward someone else due to an earlier incident or knowledge of their race, ethnicity, gender, social orientation, and/or class. Throughout Liliana Hecker's short story, "The Stolen Party", Isabel Song's Huffington Blog Post "Why More Adults Need to Value Teenage Voices", and Lonnie Bunch and David Skorton's Washington Post "Opinion: The athlete as agent of change" misconception is used to further prejudice people against others based on their social class and beliefs. Misconception is an immoral habit which can develop the trait of prejudice in people and potentially hurt a person, a group of people or even society.
Multiple times in Liliana Hecker's short story, "The Stolen Party", the main character, Rosaura, is views based on her social class and not her innocence. Rosaura's best friend is the host's daughter and her mother is the employee of the host. Rosaura is invited as an employee and not as a guest. This is shown when Rosaura is paid for her help in handing out the cake, bringing out juice, and being the only one allowed into the kitchen. "In her hand appeared two bills. 'You really and truly earned this,' she said handing them over. 'Thank you for all your help, my pet.' " The only reason for Rosaura's invitation was because she was helping tend to guests and not a guest. This is shown as an example of misconception because Rosaura misperceived the rich people's party thinking she was a guest and Sra. Ines was prejudiced to Rosaura by handing her two bills based on Rosaura's economy and mother's job. Senora Ines using Rosaura as a puppet and Rosaura being innocent and open–hearted developed the concept of misconception and incorrect thinking in "The Stolen Party".

Some parents believe they should be involved in the sex education and process. They view teens as vulnerable children rather than young adults in society. Due to the stigma around teenagers having sex and the exposure they receive through media, parents try to intervene to protect their children from participating in sexual behavior. Although teens do know less than parents about sex, if they never get exposed to it, they will never learn. Sex education introduces sexual behavior to young adults, so by prohibiting them from taking the class, they will therefore not take part in sexual acts. This is the thought process that a parent may go through, however, educating teenagers on the risks of their behavior is the best way to prevent sexual behavior because it allows them to understand why they should be safe if they choose to participate in sexual behavior.
