May 11th, 1904 Salvador Dali was born in Figueres, Spain. He was born a rather intelligent child, and his mother often indulged him in his arts. Dali spent most of his childhood in their family's summer home in the village of Cadaques. It is here where his parents built him his first studio. His love and talent for the arts led him to attend the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid. His recognition for his talent was in Barcelona in 1925, at his first one man show. A year later, he joined the surrealists. In the same year, he met Gala Eluard, which soon became Dali's lover, business manager and chief inspiration.
