The 1962 Topps Baseball card set outdid the size of all previous Topps releases with an enormous offering of 598 cards. This sizable checklist, combined with a host of additional base card variations, makes it a challenging set for collectors to complete. The cards measure the standard 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches with most of them being laid out in a vertical orientation. The set is easily recognizable due to the distinct wood–grain styled background of the cards. The player image appears on what is designed to look like a poster, as you can see from the curling of the lower right corner of the player photo. Loaded with future Hall of Fame players, a few of the key cards in the set are Sandy Koufax (card #5), Roger Maris (#401), and Mickey Mantle (card #200). There is also a trifecta of noteworthy rookie cards included in the set as well: Gaylord Perry (card #199), Boog Powell (card #99) and Lou Brock (card #387).
