Following team USA's success in what was famously known as The Miracle on Ice at Lake Placid , the 1980 Summer Olympics, which was held in Moscow, Russia 5 months after the miraculous event turned out to be one of the most controversial and historic Olympics event ever. A few months before the event in Moscow, a plethora of political and militarily actions occurred, involving nations' foreign diplomacies, relations and ties and all due from the events of the Cold War. In total, there were 203 events in the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games, which was more than any previous Olympic Games. Throughout the whole games period, there were a total of 36 World Records, 3 European Records and 74 Olympic Records set. One of the most famous athlete in the 1980 Moscow Games was the Soviet's own Aleksandr Dityatin, who was competing before his hometown crowd in Moscow. He led the Soviet Union to the team championship and then won the individual all–around title. He was also qualified for all six apparatus finals, which on July 25th 1980, he won all six and bagged six medals in one day, earning gold on the rings and silvers on the horizontal bar, parallel bars and pommel horse and in the vault event. He also earned a bronze medal in the floor exercise. Furthermore, Dityatin was the first athlete in Olympic history to win eight medals in one Olympic Games, plus he was the first male gymnast ever to be awarded a perfect score of ten in an Olympic competition, an achievement he accomplished in the long horse vault. The overall champion of the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games was the host country, Soviet Union, with a whopping 195 medals in total, with an astounding 80 gold medals, 69 silver medals, and 46 bronze.
