1. "A Modest Proposal" is an ironic essay: the author deliberately writes what he does not mean. What is the real thesis? Is there more than one?
I think that there could be more than one thesis for the essay. One could be that the author is showing how difficult the lower classes lives are and that the wealthy can be extremely cruel.
2. A clear difference exists between Swift and the persona who makes this proposal. Characterize the proposer.
The proposer and Swift do care about the economic state of Ireland but in different ways. The proposer is clearly a twisted person who is only interested in making himself better.
