"Acquainted with the Night", is a doleful is a sonnet written by Robert Frost. Robert Frost expresses his sorrow and isolation in fourteen lines while also containing a rhymed scheme that continues in terza rima. "Acquainted with the Night", examines Frost's depression and how he tries to strive it through the night. Even though Robert Frost uses a variety of poetic elements thought this poem, imagery is portrayed to be the main poetic element in his poem. Using imagery, he vividly describes his wretched self as he trudges the night alone. as he roams through the dark streets Frost's use of imagery expresses how he himself is perceiving and contemplating the night at nighttime. Frost includes sounds of imagery when he says: "I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet/ when far away from an interrupted/ Came over... (Frost 1928, lines 6–8). Within these lines, his use of imagery shows the loneliness of the poet. Striking an indication that he stops for any sound that he hears, trying to see if it was for him, however with no response to him at all he notices it, it is streets away from him. Within these lines, use of imagery portrays the loneliness that the poet is truly experiencing. Moreover, Frost not making any eye contact with anyone, not even with the watchman, is a glimpse into his sorrowful life, "I have passed by the watchman on his beat/And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain" (Frost 1928, lines 3–5). Within these lines, the poet is seen avoiding people, due to being and wanting to be left alone at night and just roam the streets.
