History has proven that when art is made, art becomes timeless. This is the reality with countless of classic films that have proven that when directors utilize various film techniques, they are able to create magnificent shots and scenes. In the film, "All the President's Men", the director, Alan J. Pakula employs various techniques that he effectively utilizes to make the political thriller an intriguing experience for his audience. In this phone call scene, the close ups are meant to serve a similar purpose as well as highlight Woodward's role as a significant player in the story's plot. The medium close up takes over the whole screen as the author begins to move Woodward more into focus as his upper torso and face fill it up. After the zoom is employed, however, the audience are made to focus entirely on Woodward and this establishes a ground on which the audience can ask, what is he saying, what is the phone call about and how is it relevant? Essentially, to Woodward, the world drops out of focus and this is especially after he uncovers a big part of his investigation; the $25000. Later into the phone call, the director moves closer through the extreme shot that enables him to emphasize on the character's thoughts and feelings at the point. When the camera moves closer, we see Woodward fidget his hands, rub his eyebrows and nervously massage his face as he is anxious as to the revelations of the phone call.
