Swing Voters Research Paper

Swing Voters Research Paper

Have you ever had noticed how easily it is for someone to influence and change your decision when you're on the fence about an issue? Due to their inexperience in the electorate teens may also be easily swayed and have their opinions changed. This would just enlarge the number of swing voters. A swing voter is a voter who has no allegiance to any political party and whose unpredictable decisions can swing the outcome of an election one way or the other. There's a vicious fight for these precious voters, as they're the ones who can change the direction of an election. Swing voters can be especially vulnerable during the weeks leading up to an election when voters who have not yet pledged allegiance to a certain candidate can be influenced and

Drinking And Driving Persuasive Speech

Imagine this. It's the weekend, you have nothing planned but to just sit at home and watch T.V. Your sister gets invited to a party but her friend invited her to spend the night, your parents don't really like the party idea at all but allows her to go stay the night at her friends instead. Your sister goes to the party instead. Just imagine waking up in the middle of the night to your parents crying, hearing your mom cry and yell. You run downstairs and find out that your sister has been in a car accident and was also drinking and driving. Your sister, who was only eighteen is pronounced dead. She had her whole life ahead of her, but it's ruined all because she went to the party, got drunk, and decided it was okay to drive. How would you ... There are a lot of things being done about this like Students Against Driving Drunk (SADD) is an organization that was founded in 1981. Its goal is to stop teens from drinking and driving. SADD and other local and national organizations recommend making a contract, or pact, with your parents. Kids need support and a lesson about what drinking and driving can take away from you or you away from something. How would your parents feel if you never came home from a party and drove drunk and had died? Set clear rules. A study of over 1,000 teens found that teens with "hands on" parents who establish clear behavioral expectations, monitor their teens comings and goings, and aren't afraid to say no are four times less likely to engage in risky behaviors like drinking and driving. Feel free to be strict without feeling guilty. Some of the best ideas I've seen come from mostly parents who have lost their teen to drinking and driving. They don't want someone else to have to go through the same pain they did or if they are going through it right now.

Do Curfews Keep Teens Out Of Trouble Essay

Curfews Do Keep Teens out of Trouble Curfews. Something that teens show hatred for or the next big thing to save many lives. This issue has brought a lot of controversy because of its many upsides and downsides.Curfews has stopped many teens from doing the wrong thing and just plain old regretful things. Curfews keep teens out of trouble. Teenagers are safer when they have curfews because it keeps them away from dangerous people, drinking at parties, and doing something really bad that they'd regret. Teenagers are safer inside than outside after dark because of all the dangerous people. Those people out in the dark could kidnap them and the teens could get really hurt. There are over 200,000 child abductions per year. If there wasn't any curfews then there would probably be more kidnappings. The Importance Of Sex Education

Some parents believe they should be involved in the sex education and process. They view teens as vulnerable children rather than young adults in society. Due to the stigma around teenagers having sex and the exposure they receive through media, parents try to intervene to protect their children from participating in sexual behavior. Although teens do know less than parents about sex, if they never get exposed to it, they will never learn. Sex education introduces sexual behavior to young adults, so by prohibiting them from taking the class, they will therefore not take part in sexual acts. This is the thought process that a parent may go through, however, educating teenagers on the risks of their behavior is the best way to prevent sexual behavior because it allows them to understand why they should be safe if they choose to participate in sexual behavior. Sex education also explains that it is ok to say no to sexual behavior. Young adults should have the opportunity to access sex education to learn about the safety percussions so then they can make an informed decisions, by themselves, on sex and abortions. Many parents also believe there should be parental involvement for minors to access parental abortions. The decision to have an abortion is great because it can change the entire course of a young adult's life. Instead of focusing on a newborn's wants a needs, the young adult can continue her life. However, Linda Lowen, an unbiased freelance writer states, "Those who

In today's society Community Policing and problem solving is what is needed to keep criminal activity under control. Due to ineffective policing methods crime has continued to be on a rise. The use of drugs and drug abuse is an ongoing concern within the community along with law enforcement. These teens are obtaining these drugs from a source that is located in everyone's bathroom, the medicine cabinet. Officer Reynolds informs this writer that this information is not from hearsay, but from the many teens he has come in contact with. Have Smartphones Destroyed A Generation? By Jean Twenge

In the article "Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation?" Jean M. Twenge she argues that a generation has been taken over by smartphones. I agree with Twenge's theories, but I feel that she was over–exaggerating when she states that teenagers are on a "mental–health crisis". I realize that I am categorized in the second group who is considered antisocial. I like to go out, but it is rare that this happens because I feel comfortable in my room. Whenever I do go out I have a great time with all of my friends. It is vice versa for most teenagers, sometimes they like to go out and party other times they don't; it just all about preference. It is not that teenagers spend their time much differently than they did back then, it is just that sometimes they just want to be antisocial and get away from the world for a while and focus on themselves.

The author states that teens are less likely to party, drink, and get into an accident. I have to disagree with this statement of hers as well. My main reason is that having a smartphone, just having social media period, gives teens more access to parties. Social media helps promote parties, and a lot of teens who aren't even in high school yet can go out and smoke, drink and get into an accident just as easily as the teenagers did in previous generations. Also, social media can promote drinking and smoking underage, and if someone ever saw any of these posts or videos promoting this type of "fun", of course, they would want to go out and try it to see what they would experience for themselves. This is because the people on social media doing certain things they are not supposed

Teen Drinking and Driving: Is that beer worth a life? Farm stores, fake ID's, and parent's cabinets are just a few of the ways that teens can get their hands on alcohol. Their own cars, parent's car, and friend's cars are a few of the ways that teens have access to motor vehicles. Being how easy it was to get alcohol and a car, imagine how easy it will be to mix teens, drinking, and driving. The terrible dangers and consequence that can come from such an event can disastrous and scary. An alcohol level of 0.081 is legally considered as driving under the influence. Depending on weight and size it will depend how many drinks are needed to be drank to get to that level. Once that level has been reached and a car and driving come into place there is no way that a person, teen or adult, can consciously truly admit to being sober enough to drive. Argumentative Essay On Under Age Drinking

Under Age Alcoholism Under age drinking is not just an issue that the United States experiences, but all over the world. What most teens do not realize is that under age drinking is a major concern to people, it can be quite dangerous to themselves and to others as well. Underage drinking is when a minor under the legal age of twenty one decides to consume alcohol. In the article, The Problem Of Underage Drinking And What Parents Can do by Heidi Steven, it is said by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse that "the percentage of teenagers who drink is slowly declining" (Stevens 1). Although the percentage is declining for underage drinking, the numbers are still roughly high. Alcohol is one of the most widely used substance among teens in America, even compared to the statistics of marijuana and cigarettes combined. With these odds, the number of incidents that are reported every year, are just likely to happen if underage drinking isn't put into control. Another study that was reported by the Centers for Disease Control mentions that "excessive drinking is responsible for more than 4,300 deaths each year...[and] 189,000 emergency rooms visits" (Stevens 1). The consequences of underage drinking not only affects the drinkers health but, others who are around or who are perhaps even involved in the act are at risk. The statistics of deaths and injuries that are linked to alcohol show the true dangers that underage drinking is associated with, which is why underage drinking should be taken into account. n addition to controlling underage drinking, it is the parents job to help maintain their drinking.parents should have a talk from now and then, starting at a young age. Another factor that underage drinking has a negative effect against your health, is that it affects to major areas of the brain. The two areas are the hippocampus and the prefrontal lobe, their roles are responsible for memory, learning, concentration and emotion. Most young people's brains are still considered to be developing by the time they hit their 20s. Studies of adolescents have shown "that heavy and extended alcohol use is associated with a 10% reduction in the size of of the hippocampus" (Steven 1), and that "these young people

My Virtual Teen Life : Analysis

During this time of my virtual teen's life they experienced many physical, cognitive, and socioemotional changes and developments. In these years they experienced challenges that many adolescents face such as finding their identity, adjusting to high school, developing morals, and adjusting to a divorced family. All the while they were consistently doing well in school academically while having some minor issues socially as they tended to stay shy around new people and keep to a small close group of friends.

The challenge to adjust to high school life usually corresponds to other moments of development in the adolescent's life with such changes taking place which include puberty and related concern about body image, changes in social cognition, increased responsibility and decreased dependency on parents (Santrock, 2016). These changes were observed in my teen through certain reports such as how at 13 she was nervous about the transition to high school and worried that her friendships would change. She also experienced physical changes and concern about her body image as at age 14 she expressed being teased about having a flat chest and requesting new kinds of bras to remedy this. This body concern also came as she began gaining some weight during puberty making her refuse to wear certain clothes that she felt accentuated her weight problem. These reports show that this newfound concern about body image that was developed is so significant to adolescents that it tends to

"Well, we do enforce it," Chief Beckner replied. "But what we're seeing is it's not being effective." Beckner has tried many different kinds of enforcement techniques over the years, including strict crack–downs. 'We'd find a party where we know there's underage drinking. We would seal the house. The restricted age limit put on alcohol is actually a very important number. 21 is the age that your brain is thought to be fully developed. The next growing issue that seems to be occurring all over the U.S. is teenagers and smoking weed, chewing tobacco, smoking cigarettes, and participating in other harmful drug use. Teenagers can start using drugs for multiple reasons. Many try drugs out of curiosity, to party and have a good time, pressure put on by their friends, to relieve stress, anxiety, and depression. The use doesn't typically lead to an addiction and there is no way to tell the amount of uses it takes for a person to get addicted to a substance. That varies from person to person. Over time, it has become a regular thing for citizens of Australian to drink excessive amounts alcohol; Australians of many different ages drink alcohol for a wide range of reasons; whether alcohol is being consumed due to a special occasion, for stress relief, or as an (not so good) anti–depressant. Alcohol, believe it or not makes a huge impact on Australians as young as 14. Statistics show that at least 90% of teenagers 14 years old and up have tried alcohol at least once, and estimates also show that around about 50% of teens 14 and older consume alcohol on a weekly basis. Culminating Essay: Live To Tell Genres are classifications of literature, easily distinguished by content. Young adult literature is very popular and commonly read by teens. The novel Live To Tell by Lisa Harrington is classified as young adult fiction because it contains intense subject matter, and language and contemporary issues teens can relate to. To begin, young adult fiction contains intense subject matter that is often dramatic and life threatening. According to Wikipedia, "subject matter should be one people can relate to" (Young). Firstly, in Live To Tell intense subject matter is displayed between characters, such as sexual assault. Cal sexually assaults Libby, and Libby remembers, "trying to wiggle away twisting [her] body, but the car was too small. Should City Adopt A Curfew?

The topic of whether the city should adopt a curfew of 10 p.m. has been debated for years. Many people believe that the curfew would keep teens out of danger. However, others think having a curfew would interfere with young people's lives. Although, people think that a curfew of 10 p.m. would be unfair to teenagers, adopting a curfew would help let parents know where their teenager is, it would teach discipline and it would keep teens out of trouble. One important reason is, that it would help let parents know where their teenager is. This is because it would be against the law for them to be out past 10 p.m. For instance, if one was going to a friends house to stay the night then he or she's parents would know that they are at their ... That it would let parents know where their teenager is is one reason but there are still more reasons to come. A more important reason is, that it would teach discipline. This is because breaking the law is illegal and needs to have consequences. For instance, if one was out skateboarding with friends at 2 a.m. and the cops came then, he or she would be taken to jail and the teen would not be out that late again. Furthermore, if one was at a party and the cops were called then, he or she and the other teenagers would be taken to jail and would not party that late again. That it would provide discipline is another reason but there is still one more. Perhaps the most compelling reason is that it would keep teens out of trouble. This is because being out after 10 p.m. would break the law. For instance, if one was debating whether to go out with a bunch of friends or stay home then, he or she would stay home because they do not want to get into any trouble. Furthermore, if one wanted to go to a party at 11:30 p.m. then, he or she would stay home and not risk getting caught outside after 10 p.m. Therefore, the city

The Patterns Of Teen Drug Abuse

A pattern that we've seen erupt over the last couple of years is the habit of teenagers and young adults falling prey to party drugs, there's been a sense of normalcy placed along with a pill popping culture, you'll notice rappers almost romanticizing and influencing teenagers into experimenting with prescription drugs. What most people don't take into consideration before consuming these drugs is that most prescription opioids have addictive side effects, that when taken in long term or copious amounts can cause the user to experience withdrawals and ultimately draw them back in a continuous cycle. Most would say, why can't they just not take the drugs? Or claim it was the users fault because they know better. While they are not entirely right, it's not wrong either. Research shows that a large majority of teens will find themselves in a position where they will be offered drugs before the age of 14 at a party, this decision will ultimately affect their life in the long run, be it becoming a social outcast from their peers for not trying these drugs, or taking them and developing an addiction that will surely harm their bodies before they've truly became adults.

Teen drug overdose is an issue that dates back over multiple generations, with each finding their own ways to get recreational highs. Posting about the children's activities at the club was a good transition to their call for volunteers because it gives them something to be excited about. Potential volunteers can see the joy in the kids eyes during their Easter activities, and gave volunteers the confidence that donating/volunteering to the club can keep this joy

Teen years are the most complicated and overwhelming years of a child's life. Every teen goes through different stages while they are in the transition in becoming into an adolescent. Rumspringa Research Paper

The Amish tradition of Rumspringa allows and encourages 16–year–old Amish teens to experiment and explore adulthood. Some of them go to the movies or the mall. The Amish think that before a young adult is committed to their church for their lifespan, they must explore many pleasurable activities or things ahead of time and "get it out of the way." The majority of teens explore by going to parties, having sex, and driving fast cars. The parties that they throw are crazy, out of control, and dangerous. These inexperienced teens drink heavy amounts of alcohol and experiment hard drugs. Although Rumspringa is a sacred Amish tradition, there must be changes to the guidelines to restrict dumb teenagers from making dire decisions that can cause harm. In my opinion, I would strongly consider that Rumspringa should be parent supervised ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...Of course, anyone can assume a sheltered teen who has not witnessed modern life and experienced "fun" will go wild. Analysts believe conservative parents teach their child about correct morals and values and yet don't turn a blind eye. In my opinion, if this was true, the epidemic of Amish teens pushing too far during Rumspringa would not be a debatable topic of discussion. Many authors summarize Rumspringa as a simple rite of passage where Amish teens ride horse and buggies and socialize while an insignificant amount of them party. Again, a National Geographic journalist covers up the dire matter of this issue and only explains Rumspringa as, "Rumspringa is just a token venture: going to the local movie theater, or driving lessons," Although National Geographic is a trusted source, the question still remains, how come an educated scholar completely left out half of the equation. Time and time again, men and women write about this controversial topic and leave out the questionable and well–known

Analysis Of Liliana Hecker's The Stolen Party

Edgar Allen Poe once said, "Stupidity is a talent for misconception." The misconception theory is widely and commonly used. It is based on a bias and incorrect thinking. It is used today in socials classes when people are prejudiced toward someone else due to an earlier incident or knowledge of their race, ethnicity, gender, social orientation, and/or class. Throughout Liliana Hecker's short story, "The Stolen Party", Isabel Song's Huffington Blog Post "Why More Adults Need to Value Teenage Voices", and Lonnie Bunch and David Skorton's Washington Post "Opinion: The athlete as agent of change" misconception is used to further prejudice people against others based on their social class and beliefs. Misconception is an immoral habit which can develop the trait of prejudice in people and potentially hurt a person, a group of people or even society.

Multiple times in Liliana Hecker's short story, "The Stolen Party", the main character, Rosaura, is views based on her social class and not her innocence. Rosaura's best friend is the host's daughter and her mother is the employee of the host. Rosaura is invited as an employee and not as a guest. This is shown when Rosaura is paid for her help in handing out the cake, bringing out juice, and being the only one allowed into the kitchen. "In her hand appeared two bills. 'You really and truly earned this,' she said handing them over. 'Thank you for all your help, my pet.' " The only reason for Rosaura's invitation was because she was helping tend to guests and not a guest. This is shown as an example of misconception because Rosaura misperceived the rich people's party thinking she was a guest and Sra. Ines was prejudiced to Rosaura by handing her two bills based on Rosaura's economy and mother's job. Senora Ines using Rosaura as a puppet and Rosaura being innocent and open–hearted developed the concept of misconception and incorrect thinking in "The Stolen Party".

In addition to "The Stolen Party", Isabel Song's Huffington Blog Post "Why More Adults Need to Value Teenage Voices" also revolves around the concept of misconception. Song specificities one topic repeatedly– adults ignoring teens. She revolves around two important misconceptions. First of all, adults are being

Curfews Keep Teens Out of Trouble Do curfews keep teenagers out of trouble? This topic has always been on the cover page of today's newspaper headlines and a hot topic that has been discussed by every family. What are curfews like? A curfew is a time frame given by an authority like a parent or the government to teenagers below 18 to be home before a certain period of time. So, ask yourself, do you think that by implementing curfews into a teenager's life, he or she would keep out of trouble. Our group has discussed and came to an agreement that curfews really do help teenagers keep out of trouble. Firstly, curfews help teenagers to stay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...One other reason why curfews keep teens out of trouble is that curfews set by parents are a way of showing that the parents care about the teen. (Boekestein, 2010) suggests that teens actually want to spend time with their parents but do not know how to. A curfew is the brainchild of parents all over the world to make sure that their teen is safe and also to be able to spend quality time with them while they still can. Without the curfew, teens would spend all their time with their friends but miss out on the most important people of all, which are their parents. Although it might not seem that curfews are a way to spend time with the teen, it surely is. According to (Boekestein, 2010), a teen said what all teens were trying to say, which is they don't care about other things in life, they love their parents and would like to spend more time with them than they normally do. A teen also said that he only talks to his parents in the car or during dinner as their hectic schedule demands the parents to be on their toes all the time. As (Boss, 2012) suggests, teens should have effective communication skills to make sure that what they want and what their parents think they want are the same. This could lead to extensions of curfews or even better understanding of each other. It also helps in the long run as it improves the teen–parent relationship. Good

Natasha was walking home from a friends house one Thursday night at around eleven–thirty. Natasha heard these loud bangs and crashes against buildings. It alarmed her that something was not right. She began to walk a bit faster, but the noises crept up to her. Natasha was kidnapped that Thursday night and was never seen again. Perhaps this is the reason why our city council is making it illegal for teenagers to be out on the streets after 10 p.m. on weekdays and after midnight on weekends. I agree with the consideration of the 10 p.m. and 12 a.m. curfew for teens because it is safer and it limits the opportunity for teenagers to make bad choices.

Anything bad can happen in the daytime, but it is more likely to happen in the dark of night. There are a lot of safety issues that can occur during the night. An intruder has more of an opportunity to attack a teen in the dark. The darkest places in the dark such as dark alleys are very dangerous. A young teen could walk down a dark alley after midnight and get taken within a blink of an eye. Underage Drinking At The United States

As an eighteen year old in America, you are able to sign housing contracts, join the military, marry a loved one, or even own a firearm but you cannot have a legal drink. We are allowing young American citizens to sign their life away to fight for our country yet if they are seen with a beer they will experience legal complications. Also, at the age of eighteen you are able to smoke and purchase cigarettes, why make drinking different? Underage drinking in America is inevitable. Bill H.R 734, Eliminating the Restrictions of Legal Drinking Age, proposes to eliminate having a legal drinking age in the United States. With having no drinking age in the United States it can help teens learn responsibilities of being an adult. People all around the world drink alcohol, both legally and illegally. There are many incidents of young Americans getting caught underage drinking every day. Allowing the drinking age to be eliminated can help teens learn responsibilities about drinking and affects alcohol can cause. Lowering the drinking age would help prevent crime and personal injuries that are caused by alcohol abuse. There would be a lot of benefits of having no drinking age. The amount of binge drinking would lessen, and the outrage to drink would also decrease. Liquor stores, bars, and clubs all want to make money and if they can get away with selling to underage teens, they will. According too Murry, Marquette Law Review, '' It is estimated that "50% of underage high school and

What Moral Behavior Was Created In The 50's

Brooklyn Gibson

Moral Behaviors
The word Teenager was created in the 1950's due to the tremendous amount of people in that age group. In the 50's teens spent there time listening to music at diners, or spending their weekends at the local drive in. Teens back then didn't have much to worry about, one of the biggest being if their knee length skirts were to short. Now teenagers spend there time at parties, many times engaging in illegal acts. Many would say teens now are unruly compared to teens in earlier days. Could it be that the morals and expectations for teens have changed over time or could it be that the older generations have a much different idea of how teens actions should be in present day? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...Young women in the 50's would have been embarrassed by the thought of having a one night stand, or being able to out drink the boys. In the 50's, women were often portrayed in magazines and advertisements as domestic servants whose main duty was catering to the needs of their husband and children. A truly feminine woman's proper place was in the home, especially in the kitchen. Teen girls now have lowered standards for themselves tramendiously. Girls now do not think twice about wearing seductive clothing to school, parties, or dates. To many of the older generation it is appalling to see how young girls have demolished their own self esteems.
Instead of nervously asking girls out on a date for dinner and a movie. Teen boys now ask for a quick and easy hookup. In my opinion girl should be outraged if ever ask to engage in an act like that. What happened to picking a girl up, and having to wait down stairs while having an awkward conversation with her father. Now dates are very rare, and even more rare that parents are involved or even acknowledged, before dates or "hookups"

Compare And Contrast Teenagers In Romeo And Juliet

In the story of Romeo and Juliet, are there possible similarities from today's world to the time period in the book? When you read Shakespeare's story, you discover how much teenagers then remind you of today's teens. Teenagers from both these time periods seem to have a lot in common. It is surprising how strongly the behavior of Romeo and Juliet and their friends parallels the way today's teens handle relationships and deal with situations. One way they are similar is how teens in the story and teens today can be so dramatic. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is extremely distraught over his breakup with Rosaline. He was depressed and crying, went for long walks in the woods, and would come home to a darkened room where he would sit alone and be miserable all day! Similarly, I have known teenagers who have cried for several days and couldn't shake their sadness simply because the person they were interested in dating did not have the same interest in them. These examples prove that the way teenagers handle things that should be so simple to get over, in both time periods, is actually very dramatic.

As well as this, another characteristic of teenagers is how impulsive they can be. In the story, Romeo is completely lovesick, devastated, and depressed. It amazes me how he can barely function until he suddenly takes one look at Juliet, and he then immediately gets over his love of Rosaline! As well as this, Tybalt is impulsive when he decides he is going to go kill Romeo at the party simply because Romeo is a Montague, not because of anything he has done. In like manner to this, today's teenagers can also be reckless like this. We may decide to go to a movie without getting permission or money. We may hop in the car and go to get fast food only to discover we have no money in our wallet when we get to the restaurant. We may make a comment on an Instagram post without thinking about how our words might affect someone. All of these examples prove that teens in either time period did not think most times and just acted on first thought.

Yet another similar characteristic of Shakespeare's teenagers and today's minors is their tendency to be rebellious. Romeo and Juliet were not even supposed to talk to each other

Youth Culture Vs Pop Culture

Everything changes overtime. After World War II, America's birth rate exploded with more than 65 million children being born. As they grew, technology advanced and grew along with them. Have Smartphones Destroy A Generation? : Have Smartphones...

Shaped or Destroyed? Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation?, by Jean M. Twenge, was published in the September 2017 Issue of The Atlantic. Twenge discusses the impacts of smartphones in teens (also referred to as "iGen's") today and attempts to determine if smartphones have caused a generation to falter in their mental and physical health. The author interviews a 13 year old girl about issues teens are developing due to these devices. She examines the spike in teen suicide rates since the invention of the smartphone, how teens no longer go out and socialize with others, and the lack of sleep teens may be getting due to smartphone activity. Many research projects have suggested that smartphone activity among teens is linked to depression symptoms, "Kids who spend more time online are lonelier than the kids who spend less time online" (Twenge). I disagree with this as being online or on social media gives some kids the feeling of being wanted as they are able to make friends through these platforms. The internet is a popular form of entertainment and in most instances provides teens with something to do. It is a proven fact that suicide rates among teens have spiked throughout generation iGen; however, speaking from experience, my friends and I are often on our smartphones and have never shown any signs of depression or thoughts about self–harm. Twenge states, "Instead of killing each other, teens are beginning to kill themselves." I somewhat agree with this statement,

Respecting Teenagers Will Deter Conflict Essay

Respecting Teenagers Will Deter Conflict

TEENAGERS ARE KNOWN FOR their bizarre mood swings, questioning minds and incessant energy. These traits mixed in with a parent's habit of denying a teen's request without a justification are common causes for many of the conflict between parents and teenagers.

This occurs because in childhood "no" is accepted without question––a child is not mature enough, in many cases to question, but that is not in a teen's nature. They are no longer children and should not be treated as such. It is wrong for parents to say "no" without any reason. In doing this they are inciting a teen's anger and encouraging rebellion, therefore causing conflicts that disrupt the peace in a house hold. For example, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...If a parent states this concern as a reason why he or she is not letting the teen go, then there is a better chance that this teen will understand and that together they will come to an agreement. Perhaps the teen, using their judgment, eventually decide not to go.

The situation mentioned previously shows that behind such an empty word as "no" there always is a reason. Adults are given explanations, even if they are not quite obvious––why should it be different with teenagers? Although they may not be as mature as adults, teenagers are perfectly capable of analyzing and understanding the reasons why certain ways of conduct, dressing and actions are prohibited. In fact, most are likely to accept and even agree with a parent provided he or she actually sits down and discusses the matter in a mature civilized way.

In any case, contemporary education teaches us to question. This is a method through which people learn to think for themselves. The right to question is, in fact, human nature, as well as essential. All people have this right and it would be discriminatory as well as an act of tyranny to deny to teenagers simply because of their youth. If anything, a teen's right to question should be encouraged. How are teens expected to grow and learn if no one teaches them––merely gives them vacant answers such as "no"?

Knowing this, however, many parents still hold on to the detrimental habit of assuming that teens don't have the right to know why they

Illinois has some intriguing history to it. For example, the name "Illinois" comes from an Algonquin word, Illini, meaning men, or warriors (Student Learning Center). Underage Drinking Debate

Fort Collins has recently proposed an ordinance that aims at underage drinking. Through this ordinance, party hosts will be liable for minors under the influence even if they did not supply the alcohol. This social ordinance would result in a civil violation and fine for individuals who host a party where underage drinking takes place.

I am in belief that this ordinance would do more harm than good in the Fort Collins community.
