Affluenza Anyone who kills innocent people should not be able to avoid jail just because their family is rich. Ethan Couch a teenager killed 4 innocent people and injuring 2 of his passengers while driving drunk. For his actions he was supposed to go to jail but instead got probation for being diagnosed with "affluenza." Which is when someone does not understand or control what they do simply because they come from a rich family. Affluenza is not an acceptable reason for someone to avoid jail time because he is old enough to know what was right or wrong and he is no different from any other kids. Some people might argue that affluenza is a good enough reason to avoid jail. These people believe this because they say that he is yet still undeveloped and his parents didn't teach him anything. For instance, in the article 'affluenza isn't as crazy as it sounds,' by Danny Cevallos argues that "As children our functions such as risk assessment and judgement are still undeveloped." (Cervallos, p28)It is very true that we are still young and we do not yet understand everything. While this is a valid argument, what these people forget is that we live in a world where everything can teach you a lesson.
