Affluent children are usually considered to be at low risk. However, in recent news 16–year–old, Ethan Couch killed 4 individuals and paralyzed a 5th in a car accident just after stealing beer from Walmart. Couch was driving under the influence with a BAC of .24 as well as Valium and marijuana in his system. When taken to trial Couch's defense was that he suffered from Affluenza a disorder due to excessive wealth and parent's lack of attention. These problems consist of lack of motivation, feelings of guilt as well as a sense of isolation (Klass & Valiente ,2015). Affluenza has started to become a reoccurring topic in the media.
